Diva Dash Recap

Holly & I befor the Race
Ok so the Diva Dash wasn’t my best race but it was fun!!  My worry & dread started on Wednesday when my foot started hurting a little.  So I went to the gym & was planning on doing a light run to see how it felt, well that turned out to be a mile & a half run but oh well.  My foot felt fine!  Well, that all changed Thursday morning when I woke up, I couldn’t walk!!  I was so upset because the Diva Dash was on Saturday.  So Thursday I strapped my running shoes on & went to work, yes I wore my running shoes to work!! At this point I thought I had a stress fracture in my foot!  I took some Advil & hoped for the best!!  By the end of the day my foot felt better so I thought I could walk the Diva Dash.  Friday was packet pick-up day.  My foot felt almost back to normal but I was still not sure.  I left work at 3:30 to go pick our packets & shirts.  It was crazy there!!  Then I stopped by my sister’s pharmacy to pick a foot wrap!!  Friday was just a normal Friday, Todd went to bed at 7:30 & I stay up watching my shows!!  I went to bed around 9!!  Saturday I woke up at 6 checked my phone & my friend Holly was on the way!!  My foot felt extremely good but I wasn’t taking any chances.  I got dress, wrapped my foot & drink a lot of water!!  Holly got to my house at 7 & we were off to the race!!  The race started at 8 so we had time to stretch when we got there.  We both started off running but after the race started Holly started to walk.  I ran a little further but started walking about a mile into the race!  Once I came to the turnaround I started to run again!! Then I started walking again after about a ½ mile.  I walked the last of the race but I did manage to RUN across the finish line.  I finished the race in 42:34 which considering I had a foot injury is pretty good.  I could have ran more & done better but I wanted to make sure my foot was ok!!  My foot is fine I think I just over did my training!!
On the Course

My next race is the Race for the Cure in September & then I am trying to put together a relay team for the Route 66 Marathon in November!!

Until next time!!

4th of July

Over the 4th of July weekend we did a lot of cooking.  We tried something new on the smoker, a Big Fatty.  It is so not good for you but it tasted so good.  I thought I would share the recipe with you.

1 pound of thick cut bacon

1 pound hamburger meat

½ regular sausage

For the filling (use whatever you want but we used the following):

½ onion chopped

½ green pepper

4 or 5 button mushrooms

Shredded Cheddar Cheese

To assemble:
Bacon Weave

Weave the bacon (see picture)

Mix together the hamburger & the sausage and flatten it on the bacon

Then top with the filling

Roll it into a log & use toothpick to hold it together

Put in fridge for about an hour

Then it on the smoker @ 230° in the internal temperature is 165°

Take it off the smoker & let it rest for about 15-30 minutes, then cut into it & enjoy!!!!

Like I said not real good for you but it tastes so good!!!!

Until next time!!

Benefits of Running

I can’t tell you how many times I am asked “Why on earth do you run?”  And when I answer with my typical “Because I like it” answer, I get running is so boring & it hurts me or my favorite is I used to be a runner but stopped after a few times.  There are so many good reasons to run, but I run because I want to & there are a lot of other good benefits of running.  So I thought I would do a little research about it.  Because I know there are a lot of know it all’s out there that know better than me so did the only I knew how to.  I googled it!!  LOL!!

I found 2 different websites that give me some benefits of running, Active.com & Runnersworld.com.

So anyway I just wanted to highlight the one’s I feel apply to me & maybe others.

1.    Improve your health – Research shows running can raise your levels of good cholesterol while also helping increase your lung function.  I have seen that since I started running my health has been in tip top shape.  Running can also boost you immune system.

2.    Prevent Disease – Running can help lower your risk of breast cancer & help reduce your risk of having a stoke.  Which is good for me because my grandmother had a stoke.

3.    Lose Weight – Running in the leading way to burn off extra calories.

4.    Boost your confidence – By setting & achieving goals, you can help yourself feel a sense of empowerment, which in turn will make you a happier person. For me this is the biggest benefit to running!  I have set several goals for myself & I have reached most of them!!  I am so much happier!!

5.    Relieve Stress – Stress can diminish appetite & sleep quality.  When you run, you force your body to exert excess energy & hormones.  When I run after having a stressful day I feel so much better after I run!

6.    Running strengthens your knees – It’s long been known that running increases bone mas & even help stem age-related bone loss.  I have had a bad knee since high school but since I started running my knee does feel better & doesn’t hurt as much as it used to!!

Once again I am NOT a medical expert!!  I found all this information online & I just thought I would share with everyone!!  I also wanted to share how this information applied to me!!

Until next time!!
